Whitening
In Nixa, MO

Yellow teeth are a natural result of drinking tea, coffee, and wine, as well as tobacco use. So, yellow teeth are very common!

Because they’re so common, there are many over-the-counter whitening products on the market nowadays, including gels, rinses, strips, and trays. Unfortunately these methods don’t produce dental-quality results like professional whitening does, and don’t last as long.

The American Dental Association even recommends that everyone talk to their dentist before trying any at-home whitening, or there could be complications. This is especially true if you have sensitive teeth, fillings, crowns, very dark stains, or a single dark tooth.

Dr. Sutherland is a Board-Certified Dentist in Nixa, MO that can help you achieve a whiter, brighter smile! We are proud to offer KoR in-office and at-home whitening, as well as Opalescence Go. These are the two most effective methods in teeth whitening right now, producing much better results than over-the-counter solutions. Noticeably whiter teeth can usually be seen in just one appointment.

Professional KoR Whitening begins with photos, shade analysis, and an impression for customized KoR whitening trays. Overnight whitening is done for two weeks, then the patient returns for pictures and shade analysis. If in-office whitening is desired, we perform it at this time, and that appointment is 30 minutes to 1 hour. In-office can also be performed first and followed by night trays if desired.

Opalescence Go are professional take-home trays that offer a higher level of whitening than over-the-counter options, while still at an affordable price point.

Can Anyone Get Professional Teeth Whitening?

Professional teeth whitening is generally safe for most people. Ideal candidates have healthy gums, unrestored teeth (with no fillings), and yellow tones to their teeth.

How to Make Your Teeth Whitening Last Longer

Since teeth stain naturally because of the food and drink we consume, teeth whitening does not last forever. In addition to getting regular whitening treatments, there are also some things you can do to help your results last longer.

They include:

  • Avoid food and drinks that stain. This includes wine, sports drinks, carbonated beverages, black tea, coffee, strongly-colored foods (like berries)
  • Brush or rinse your mouth immediately after consuming stain-causing food or drink.
  • Brush, floss, and use mouthwash. You can also use a whitening toothpaste 1-2 times a week.
  • Eat your fruits and vegetables. The crunch in produce naturally scrubs your teeth.
  • Eat high-calcium foods.
  • Avoid tobacco.
  • Get regular cleanings. Your 6-month cleaning will give us the chance to remove any plaque buildup on your teeth, which prevents stains.
  • Sip through a straw. This helps stain-causing liquids bypass your teeth altogether.
