MEET THE DENTIST
Emily G. L. Sutherland, DDS
Dr. Sutherland wants to help you achieve a beautiful, healthy smile in the most comfortable environment possible. She wants to get to know you, listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and help you reach any goals you have for your smile.
Dr. Sutherland is originally from Houston, Texas. In 2000 she moved to Mississippi where she finished high school. She then completed a bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Mississippi. She married Springfield native, Mike Sutherland, in 2006, and they moved back to Springfield where Dr. Sutherland furthered her science education at Missouri State University. Dr. Sutherland obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from UMKC School of Dentistry in 2013. She practiced in Kansas City until she joined Nixa Dental in May 2016.

Dr. Sutherland and her family are very excited to be a part of the local community! Nixa Dental supports several local schools, sports, and charity organizations, such as Nixa Care to Learn, Isabel’s House, Dickerson Park Zoo, SCS, and Dynamic Strides to name a few. She and Mike have three daughters who are 8, 6, and 3 who keep life busy and fun outside of work.

Nixa Dental History
Our building at 106 West State Street has been welcoming area dental patients since 1946. Dr. W. Victor Wood started the first dental practice in Nixa right here in 1946. In 1977 Dr. Michael K. Butterfield kept the tradition alive when he began practicing here. After several glowing recommendations, Dr. Sutherland became a patient of Dr. Butterfield’s, and Dr. Butterfield even wrote her letter of recommendation for dental school. Dr. Sutherland was incredibly happy to be able to return to our area, and continue the legacy of offering the highest quality dental care at 106 W State St as Nixa Dental. We are very proud of our deep roots in our community and our strong personal relationships with our patients!
